Its seems to be an increasing problem that mailboxes are being tagged by thieves. With the increase in internet fraud, many thieves and scammers know that they only need a few details to be able to access your accounts and privet information, and steal from you, so your mailbox is an easy target.

It’s not only your mail that they are stealing; it’s your information – packages – money – cheques – gifts. It seems that stealing from mailboxes is easier then most people think.

 

One of the main problems with mailbox locks is that they have a master key that can  open all the standard mailbox locks. Victims have no idea that their security has been breached, until they find mail  that never arrived, or large bills from their credit card company’s or bills from other services that they knew nothing about.

 

Dr Lock locksmiths have heard stories from victims/customers & who  have had their credit card stolen & activated with charges in the area of $14 thousand dollars to their card before they were notified or they found out!..... this is just one example.

 

Other problem's with the common mail box lock is the number that is printed on the lock. This number can be used to make a key for your lock on your mailbox. If someone wanted to use your address & access your mail box, they could just order a key from that number without anyone knowing.

The third way mailbox locks are being accessed is by pulling the lock apart from the front. Some lock's have a quick swap design that will allow the lock barrel to be swapped without the need to remove the lock.

 

The problem is that you can remove the center of the lock with a small tool, or special key and then turn the center to unlock the lock. Our locksmiths have seen examples of up to 20 locks out of 80-100 mailboxes that have  the lock dismantled to gain access.

You cannot remove the barrel from our locks, and there is no code printed on the lock. For even more security the security mailbox locks we use are very hard to “lock pick “even for a locksmith.
